Vikings took the lead on Green Bay Quinten Rollins Jersey , they played with a fierce refusal to let it go.They held onto the ball with the same determination.More Vikings coverageNew Vikings OC Stefanski: r16;Itr17;s about the players and not the playsr17;Vikings coordinators: Identity of the offense, history of Vikingsr17; kicker problems and moreVikings QB Cousins on DeFilippo firing: r16;Thatr17;s something I take personallyr17;Vikings Snap Counts: 鈥楬ollywood鈥?Holton Hill in the spotlight vs. SeattleVikings hope for spark after changing offensive coordinatorsCousins bounced back from his worst game of the season with聽342 passing yards and three touchdowns聽without a fumble or an interception, and the Vikings overcame some early gaffes to outlast the depleted Packers for a 24-17 victory on Sunday night.Completing 29 of his 38 attempts, Cousins found聽Dalvin Cook聽, Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen for scores. Diggs and Thielen had eight receptions apiece.r0;It just kind of shows his character, shows what kind of player he is, to be able to just not really care what people talk about him, not really care about what happened last week,r1; Thielen said of Cousins, adding: r0;The throws he was making, his full game was really impressive. Thatr17;s what you expect out of him.r1;Sheldon Richardson had two sacks to lead the defenser17;s game-long stifling of Aaron Rodgers, and the Vikings (6-4-1) pushed the Packers (4-6-1) further back in the NFC wild card race. The Vikings won a night game for the first time this season after losing to the top three teams in the NFC: to the Rams in Los Angeles, at home to the New Orleans Saints and at Chicago in a two-interception game by Cousins against the first-place Bears. The Vikings entered the weekend with the fourth-most turnovers in the NFL, and Cousins has been charged with 13 of the 16 giveaways. Coach Mike Zimmer was so impressed by the way Cousins played against the Packers that聽he gave him the game ball in the locker room afterward聽.r0;Last week left a bad taste in our mouths,r1; Cousins said, r0;and the chance to come back on Sunday night football against a division rival at home was a great opportunity, and Ir17;m glad we made the most of it.r1;Rodgers threw a聽touchdown pass to Davante Adams聽and聽Aaron Jones scored on a short run聽for a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter, but the Packers fell to 0-6 on the road this season and 1-5-1 against the Vikings in their last seven meetings. Their final seven possessions produced only one field goal Brett Hundley Color Rush Jersey , with five punts and one turnover on downs.r0;Wer17;ve all got to play better, myself included,r1; Rodgers said. r0;Started off the game nice. We had a couple good drives. Wer17;re rolling there. We hit our unfortunate typical lull and didnr17;t get it going again.r1;With Randall Cobb out (hamstring) for a sixth game this season and rookies Equanimeous St. Brown (elbow) and Trevor Davis (hamstring) forced out in the second half, Rodgers didnr17;t have much to work with down the field. Left guard Lane Taylor (quadriceps) departed in the first half and left tackle David Bakhtiari (knee) was sidelined in the second half, leaving the protection shaky at best. Rodgers finished 17 for 28 for 198 yards, without a turnover. The Packers failed to move the chains on eight of 10 third downs. Jones was stuffed on fourth-and-inches by Harrison Smith, Danielle Hunter and Eric Kendricks midway through the third quarter, giving the Vikings the ball at the Green Bay 44. That set up a 37-yard field goal by Dan Bailey for Minnesotar17;s first lead of the game.r0;Wer17;re definitely not in the position, record-wise, we thought we would be in coming into the year or even after this game. We thought we could get the victory. But unfortunately we ran out of gas,r1; Packers linebacker Clay Matthews said. r0;Wer17;re beat up, no doubt about that. But give them credit: They put in a full four quarters.r1;SLOW STARTThe Vikings outgained the Packers 280-139 in total yardage in the first half, but they had to settle for a tie at the break. About to go for it on fourth-and-inches on the opening drive following a timeout to strategize, they were penalized for 12 men on the field and had to punt.Diggs collided with Thielen when Jaire Alexander crashed their pick play on the second possession, and after Diggs tried to circle back the other way with an ill-fated salvage attempt he lost 10 yards on that reception to lead to another punt.Baileyr17;s wide left 48-yard try wasted聽another highlight-reel catch by Thielen聽in between Alexander and Josh Jones that went for 33 yards. Later in the second quarter, after some mismanagement of the clock, the Vikings had to hustle to set up a 51-yard kick for Bailey. That one was good, but Rashod Hill was called for a false start. The 56-yarder sliced right https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Kyle-Murphy-Jersey , the fifth straight missed field goal against the Packers after rookie Daniel Carlson went 0 for 3 in Green Bay and was cut the next day.PACKED AND HAPPY HOUSEThe announced attendance of 66,872 was the largest for the Vikings in three years at U.S. Bank Stadium. A handful of Minnesota players were introduced in the first quarter with Paul Bunyanr17;s Axe, the trophy the Gophers repossessed from the rival Badgers in Wisconsin on Saturday to end a 14-game losing streak. Randy Moss kept the crowd fired up in a halftime ceremony to receive his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring.INJURY REPORTPackers: In addition to the carnage on offense, SS Kentrell Brice aggravated an ankle injury in the first quarter and was knocked out of action in the third quarter with a possible concussion. CB Kevin King and CB Bashaud Breeland were already inactive with injuries.Vikings: RT Brian Or17;Neill left in the third quarter for evaluation for a possible concussion. r30; CB Xavier Rhodes limped off with an apparent injury to his right hamstring in the fourth quarter.UP NEXTPackers: Host Arizona (2-9) next Sunday afternoon.Vikings: Play at New England (8-3) next Sunday afternoon. Michael Thomas reached behind a goal post to pull out a flip phone in homage to a memorable touchdown celebration of the past. Benjamin Watson used his touchdown catch to let everyone know that he and his wife are expecting r12; and itr17;s going to be twins. That was cause enough for celebration itself on a feel-good weekend for the NFL. So, too, was that bettors in Las Vegas and elsewhere finally turned the tables and took the bookies for millions of dollars. They could have just as easily been popping champagne corks at NFL headquarters in New York. A season that began in turmoil has reached its midpoint and the league is riding a new high, with television ratings up and fans filling stadiums to cheer their favorite teams.Suddenly, the NFL is fun once again. It showed Sunday in a shootout in New Orleans that was widely entertaining even without the touchdown props. Then, if any further evidence was needed, it was provided in prime time when Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers squared off in a showdown of quarterback greats.Brady and the New England Patriots won that one, and once again are treating another visit to the Super Bowl as their birthright. Out west, meanwhile, the Rams are trying to win fans again in Los Angeles with a team that could find its way to Atlanta, too.And a new group of exciting young quarterbacks are letting everyone know the future of the sport is in good hands. What could go wrong? Well, plenty, especially if President Trump takes an interest in the league once again. But these are good times for a league that has taken blow after blow the last few years only to emerge with its position of Americar17;s favorite sport safely intact.r0;Wer17;re the best,r1; Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said at last monthr17;s owner meetings. r0;And I know thatr17;s ironic since wer17;ve had some criticism, too. But I think thatr17;s healthy.r1;What is really healthy are offenses around the league Justin Vogel Jersey , with scoring at record levels and 27 of 32 teams averaging more than 20 points a game. New rule changes designed to protect the quarterback and free up offenses have worked exactly as planned, despite some grumbling early by players upset they couldnr17;t hit like they did in the past.Healthy indeed. Things are so good that even Roger Goodell couldnr17;t mess it up.Actually, maybe he can. Not many were paying attention, but there were still a few protests during the anthem over the weekend and the issue is one presidential tweet away from blowing up once again.Meanwhile, Colin Kaepernick remains unemployed, something everyone in the league should be ashamed about. For now, though, the attention is on the game itself. And it can be argued that the game has never looked better.Therer17;s no confusion anymore about when a catch is really a catch, and even Clay Matthews of the Packers seems to have figured out how and when to safely take down the opposing quarterback. There are dominant teams on both coasts, and a few high scoring games that are reminiscent of the old American Football League. The concussion issue has subsided, though the disturbing fact remains players are still suffering from them r12; at great risk to their long term health.Even fans of the hapless Cleveland Browns have something to be happy about with a couple of wins and a couple coaches fired. They also have a franchise quarterback in Baker Mayfield and a potential upside thatr17;s the envy of better teams. It didnr17;t happen exactly by design. A lot of the NFLr17;s good fortune is due to good luck and an unwillingness of fans to let go of their favorite sport despite its many flaws. There still is no real grand plan to end the protest debate, no long term solution to the fact football played at the highest level can shorten lives. The officiating continues to get in the way r12; often at just the wrong time r12; and therer17;s a real chance games arenr17;t played when the current collective bargaining agreement expires and players finally make a stand for guaranteed contracts. For now, though, those are distant threats. The league remains the most popular in the country by far, and the addition of legalized betting around the country will boost it even more just like fantasy football has done in recent years. What once looked like a season lost is now looking like a season to remember.____Tim Dahlberg is a national sports columnist for The Associated Press.
